Reaching boys with education

By Elizabeth A Appleyard | Program Administrator

Meraj Academy continues to be a success with many students tuning in daily for their lessons. This educational program is broadcast on TV Meraj. The program gives access to a comprehensive 7-12th grade education via TV programs and is aimed at all students. Teachers are trained specifically to provide lessons through this medium. They are instructed in how to create and load content to Youtube and interact with students via social media as well as make videos for TV.

Meraj Academy has 6 programs broadcast daily. The TV station also has other programs suitable for children and youth such as health and life skills.  For older young people, AIL has Meraj Virtual University providing university level education.

Meraj TV receives dozens of messages from the audience every day. For example,  messages are sent daily to “Academy of Ascension" Telegram, which is a sign of students' engagement. with the Academay. School students send messages to this channel to solve academic problems. On YouTube, the number of subscribers of this program has increased greatly, which shows participation by youth.

Another way AIL reaches boys is through its Youth Club which has 50 male members. This past month the group focused on mental health, educating the boys on mental illnesses, ranging from mild to severe. They discussed how these affect a person’s thinking, mood, and/or behavior. The topics included warning signs and symptoms and factors that affect mental health. The program educates youth to understand mental illness is not a choice, weakness or character flaw and that they should seek help.

Thank you for your support.
