The harsh winter of Afghanistan will create need for food aid in the indigent population of the country. AIL assists those as it can. Sometimes people come to the AIL office requesting aid or are referred by AIL Learning Center staff or by the Department of Women's Affairs.
Families with small children or elderly can be the most vulnerable and the boost the food aid gives makes a huge difference. Staff keep a stockpile of goods in readiness for need during the winter and a dedicated sum of money is available to make purchases.
In November, 120 packages of food items were distributed to the poor families at AIL learning centers and teh Department of Women's Affairs. This time the beneficiaries were all needy and disfranchised women who were targeted by the department. The food packages contained rice, cooking oil, peas, kidney beans and tomato paste.
