Computer knowledge transforms a life

By Elizabeth Appleyard | Program Officer

Dr. Yacoobi was honored to receive the 2015 WISE Prize for Education. A prestigious award given to those who are tireless advocates for the right to education. “I know from my life that education gives power, status and opportunity. I see women who are smart, intelligent but did not have opportunity so I gave them that. It is education and not guns that can transform society and give us a peaceful tomorrow. “ Sakena

Dear Friends,

It's Giving Tuesday! We would love your suppport!

AIL is helping move Afghanistan towards being a modern society providing opportunity to many who live in disadvantaged circumstances. Here is an example of a boy living in a rural situation in Farza District he said, “First of all, I want to thank AIL for giving us this opportunity. My father is farmer and I am also working with him but I wished to study computers. At this center computer is taught without charging any fee. I like this course very much.  Secondly, our economic situation is not good and I couldn’t pay fees for university. As AIL is working always to improve youth I request that AIL start a university with low fees so that we could continue our education.”

A small amount of education opens minds and gives young people hope so they aspire to learn more, become more accomplished and contribute more to the society.  Without AIL this young man’s interest in computers would have been extinguished and he would have had few opportunities beyond the subsistence farming of his father. The skills he is gaining at the center will not only change his life but that of his parents as he will be able to offer them support once he gains employment. Girls too, are keen to learn computing and put that skill to good use in the workforce.

Thank you for helping young people change their lives.
