Dear Benevity Supporters,
Over the past year, Vidigal Capoeira has continued its work of preserving Afro-Brazilian culture and creating opportunities for children, youth, and adults in our community. Despite limited resources, we have continued offering free capoeira classes, cultural activities, workshops, and community programming.
We have also continued participating in cultural initiatives and building connections with communities across Brazil. During Municipal Capoeira Week, we participated in events in São Paulo, Ceará, and Paraná, including Ponta Grossa, where we received a Motion of Applause. We were also honored with the Carolina Maria de Jesus Honor by the office of State Deputy Renata Souza, recognizing our work in favelas and underserved communities.
While these moments of recognition are important, our day-to-day reality remains challenging. We continue to work with limited resources and inconsistent access to spaces for our activities. This makes it difficult to offer programming as frequently as we would like and limits the number of people we can reach.
Still, we have continued.
Our classes and cultural activities provide more than physical training. They create opportunities for young people to learn about Afro-Brazilian history, identity, ancestry, discipline, and community. Through capoeira, dance, storytelling, and cultural education, we are working to keep these traditions alive and accessible.
The next step is to secure the resources needed to significantly expand this work. Our goal is to raise $66,000 to support the development of a permanent cultural space where we can offer daily programming, increase the number of students we serve, and create more opportunities for education and cultural exchange.
With sufficient support, we believe we can double the number of students reached and create programs that are currently beyond our capacity. Over time, activities such as cultural experiences, events, and handcrafted products can also help generate income and make the project more sustainable.
We have demonstrated what is possible with very limited resources. With greater support, we can reach many more people and give this work the opportunity to grow.
Your contribution, whether large or small, helps us continue providing access to Afro-Brazilian culture and education while building the capacity to serve our community for years to come.
Thank you for believing in Vidigal Capoeira and for helping us continue this work.
With appreciation,
Anny Moreira
