In Nigeria, 70% of university students lack access to reliable health information, and 1 in 5 students battles depression, anxiety, or other psychological challenges without help. Only 30% know their HIV status, while gender-based violence remains underreported. These crises create a perfect storm where: Preventable diseases spread unchecked, Mental health struggles disrupt academic performance, Survivors of violence lack safe reporting and Students sacrifice health due to financial hardship.
Most Nigerian university students lack regular access to reliable health education, checks, or support. Mental health concerns go ignored, gender-based violence is underreported, and many students don't know their HIV status. Financial hardship prevents many from seeking care. Students are left to cope alone with challenges on their own, which can affect both their safety and ability to stay in school. Without intervention, students risk health crises, academic failure, and preventable diseases.
We'll establish after-class health clubs on Nigerian campuses under the name Campus Circle. The initiative will launch in 30 universities across Nigeria. These student-centered spaces will provide confidential mental health support, free HIV testing and counseling, gender-based violence prevention programs with safe reporting channels, career guidance, and training on how to make hygiene items such as soap and reusable pads. The clubs will also provide healthcare for underprivileged students.
This project helps students take care of their health while in school. Trained volunteers will keep the clubs running with minimal costs, making the model easy to maintain. It can be adopted in other universities and shared through student government (SUG). As more students join, campuses will become safer and better informed. Most importantly, underprivileged students members of the clubs will have their basic medical needs covered - all within a familiar campus setting and at no cost to them.
