After-Class Health Clubs on Nigerian Campuses

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear donors,

Thank you for your early support for the Campus Circle initiative. We are grateful for your commitment to improving student health, safety, and well-being. At this stage, the funds received are still too limited to begin activities on the selected campuses. We want to update you on where the project stands and what your support is helping us prepare for.

The current funding level is not yet enough to open the first clubs, recruit trained counselors, or secure the necessary tools for mental health support, HIV testing, or gender-based violence response. Starting too early without the minimum resources would jeopardize quality, confidentiality, and continuity of services for students. For this reason, we must reach a stable funding threshold before implementation begins.

Despite this, several preparations are underway. We have identified 30 universities with high need, secured expressions of interest from trained volunteers, and drafted modules for mental health outreach, HIV testing days, and GBV reporting procedures. We have also developed starter kits for hygiene production workshops and confirmed campus-based spaces that will be activated once the project begins.

The need remains urgent. Many students still struggle with untreated mental health challenges, limited access to basic medical care, and minimal knowledge of their HIV status. Establishing these clubs will provide safe, supportive spaces where students can receive guidance, testing, counseling, and essential health services at no cost.

We will continue fundraising until we reach the amount required to launch the first set of Campus Circle clubs. Your continued support brings us much closer to creating reliable, student-friendly health centers that can be sustained by trained volunteers for years to come.

Thank you for standing with us as we work toward safer and healthier campuses across Nigeria.

Kind regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic K.
