BOSANA FOUNDATION
After School Program Report
Q1 & Q2 Quarterly Report 2022
We are very excited to report that at this moment Bosana Foundation has three active after school programs in three different cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After school program in Zenica is our pilot program. Through Input organization we offer various classes to children from Zenica orphanage, such as: Introduction to mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English. Elementary and high school kids have the opportunity to get help with subjects they don't understand well, in order to improve their grades. These classes helped immensely during and after the COVID lock down, and volunteers have noticed that there was a growing demand for additional academic support. Volunteers have also have started organizing gatherings for children from Zenica orphanage now that restrictions are lifted. Kids are ecstatic to be able to attend social activities with their friends.
Additionally, trainings for creative robotics and programming workshops were provided. In the first quarter of the year we organized programming and robotics workshops for a small group of students, one workshop a week in person and one online. In the second quarter we switched to twice a week in person. Especially well accepted workshop was the one where we worked on assembling electronic components, microbits, programming various melodies and conducting experiments.
In May and June we organized open days - STEM Robotics Day at Home and Family. This was a successful event where almost fifty kids were able to learn more about various mBots, Lego Mindstorms, Lego We Do, Arduino sets and microbit.
After School Program in Tuzla: We started this program last year after a former Bosana student, Edin, approached us with the idea to start offering tutoring sessions to children from Tuzla orphanage. Several current Bosana students are volunteering their time as tutors and Edin is managing the project. Elementary school children, living in orphanage, are receiving help with homework. They have tutoring for Physics, Chemistry, Math, and languages. Edin is also trying to organize field trips whenever there is an opportunity.
After School Program in Sarajevo: In January 2022 we extended our After School program to also provide much needed classes at the Bjelave orphanage in Sarajevo. The leader and organizer of workshops is our scholarship recipient Bilal, who also grew up in the orphanage in Sarajevo.
Bilal now provides help and support through a nonprofit organization that he started with a group of students. During this reporting period, some of the workshops offered were: educational workshops for volunteers, instructional classes in Mathematics and English, cooking workshops, and creative workshops for children from the orphanage. What we are most proud of is that through these workshops, BOSANA students are networking, and they have the opportunity to secure a volunteer place through this project.
