After School Program - Quarterly Report
July - October 2026
Dear Friends and Supporters,
This period brought two very different chapters to our After School Program: a summer of creativity, play, and time outdoors, followed by a return to the classroom with the start of the new school year.
A Summer of Creativity
Across our cities, volunteers and coordinators kept the program going through the summer break, adapting activities to the children’s needs and availability.
With school out, the focus shifted to creative and art workshops, health education, outdoor time, and simply spending time together. These activities gave children a structured and enjoyable way to spend their summer days while developing creativity, fine motor skills, and social connections.
Back to the Classroom
With the start of the 2026/27 school year, tutoring resumed as the backbone of the program. Children were eager to reconnect with volunteers, and in some locations students asked for extra sessions on their own initiative, a clear sign that they see this support as valuable.
This period also brought a new milestone: the introduction of CNC laser training in Zenica, which quickly became one of the most popular activities in the program and connects learning with practical, future-oriented skills.
Below is an overview of activities implemented across our cities during this period.
TUZLA - After School Program
After the summer break, the After School Program in Tuzla is back in action, reconnecting with children at the start of the new school year.
Tutoring has officially resumed, with four student volunteers matched with children from the Children’s Home for weekly one-on-one sessions, helping them with schoolwork and building confidence in their own learning abilities.
Alongside tutoring, children also took part in creative and educational workshops. One of the first activities was a fruit salad-making workshop, where children prepared their own fruit salads while learning about healthy eating and good habits. The team also welcomed autumn with a creative workshop in which children made seasonal decorations for the halls of the Children’s Home, working together to make their living space more colourful and welcoming.
In the coming months, the team plans a range of creative, educational, and interactive workshops that will give children the chance to explore new interests, develop practical skills, and learn through experience.
ZENICA - After School Program
During the summer break, the After School Program at JU “Dom porodica” Zenica, run by the INPUT Youth Centre and coordinated by Adi Salcinovic, followed a more relaxed schedule built around summer activities and the children’s availability. In September, the program returned to full intensity with a team of 10 active volunteers, working alongside INPUT staff, professional associates, and employees of the Home.
Interest in tutoring was strong from the very first weeks of the school year, particularly among ninth-graders and students in their final year of secondary school. Some children who were not part of the scheduled sessions asked for additional tutoring on their own initiative. Volunteers worked individually and in small groups, helping with homework, reviewing lessons, and preparing students for tests, while also helping them build study habits, independence, and confidence.
The biggest novelty of the period was the introduction of training on a CNC laser machine for ninth-graders and secondary school students. Participants learn to design and draw a model, prepare it for cutting, and see how a digital file becomes a finished object. In just three workshops, they made keychains, a jewellery box, a model airplane, and a birdhouse. The training is part of a broader goal: giving young people practical skills and a boost toward independence for the time when they turn 18 and leave the Home.
STEM, robotics, and programming workshops continued throughout September and October, and several children also took part in chess training at the INPUT Youth Centre, practising concentration, patience, and planning.
SARAJEVO - After School Program
In Sarajevo, the summer months were dedicated to creativity, play, and learning through hands-on activities.
During July and August, children took part in a series of art workshops, painting landscapes, mountains, and forests, designing outfits, and building figures out of LEGO and modelling clay. Inspired by the World Cup, they drew the jerseys of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national team players, and in workshops dedicated to the country’s symbols, they portrayed its flag, coat of arms, mountains, and rivers.
In July, an educational workshop on oral health taught children about proper dental hygiene, the correct use of a toothbrush and dental floss, and the importance of caring for their teeth every day.
In September, children made colourful paper flowers, and the workshop ended with a small exhibition where they presented their work and took pride in what they had created.
At the end of September, the youngest children in the program spent two days in nature in Ajdinovici, learning about animals and the outdoors through play and shared activities. We are grateful to everyone who helped make this trip possible.
MOSTAR - After School Program
In Mostar, the summer months were used to prepare for the new academic year and a new generation of volunteers.
As announced in our previous report, a call for new student volunteers has been published, and we are now awaiting applications ahead of the start of the semester.
Two volunteers have already confirmed that they will continue with the program: a current Bosana scholarship recipient and a Bosana alumnus who wants to stay involved alongside his work and plans for further education. Their commitment brings continuity and experience to the team that will welcome the new volunteers.
Looking Ahead
With the school year now in full swing, all of our locations have returned to a regular rhythm of tutoring and workshops. None of this would be possible without our volunteers, coordinators, educators, partners, and supporters. Together, we keep building safe spaces where children can learn, grow, and gain confidence in themselves. Thank you for being part of this journey.
