Q4 Quarterly Report
Number of volunteer instructors: 7
Average number of students: 62
Number of workshops held: Once a week in person for two hours and 3 times for 90 minutes online.
Type of classes held:
Introduction to mathematics, physics, chemistry, English and extracurricular activities, such as creative robotics and programming workshops.
Additional classes
Fort he past quarter we had instructional classes in mathematics, English, German, physics, chemistry and programming. Students from 3rd to 9th grade of primary school needed a lot of help. Students from the first to the fourth grade of high school mostly needed instruction in mathematics, English and programming. Amel, 12 years old who attends our Afterschool Program is only the first grade of primary school. He came to the orphanage recently and really needs our help so we have worked with him a lot. During these three months, the students progressed very well through instructional classes. We held instructional classes both online and in person in accordance with social distance and COVID-19 rules.
At the end of December, the results were shown by the fact that all fourty participants of our program successfully completed the first semester.
Workshops in the field of information technology, robotics and programming
This reporting period through the activities of the After School program, we held online and live workshops in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, robotics and programming). We placed special emphasis on robotics and programming. Twice a week in the afternoon we worked with beneficiaries on the construction of Lego Spike Prime robots that we rented. In this constructive way, beneficiaries had the opportunity to learn how to construct a complex robot, first through a scheme on a given topic, and after mastering, they had the opportunity to express their creativity and construct robots according to their wishes.
One of the examples of robots constructed with Lego Spike Prime is a robot for using disinfectant (a robot with sensors to which you bring your hand and the robot mechanism presses a button to release the disinfectant. We also included four students in the online competition Word Robotics Olympics 2021. Participants have had an opportunity to learn programming online in Scratch, MakeCod, Visual Code Studio. We had meetings via Zoom, Google Meet and Google Classrom. After three months of work, we noticed great results from those who attended education in the field of STEM robotics and programming. They developed competencies and skills in programming and design, as well as cooperation with peers in developing various projects that can help them in the future in the new digital age.
Parties and gatherings for children and youth
This past quarter aside from the instructional classes and workshops in the field of programming and robotics, we also organized some entertainment. Again, considering the COVID-19 pandemic we were very limited but we managed to organize some of the activities. On the occasion of the Statehood Day of BiH celebrated on 25th November, we organized a small party for children in the orphanage and we made over 65 chocolate desserts with flags of BiH. We prepared a small program of recitations, the anthem of BiH and karaoke. Except this activity, every 2nd weekend we organized small gatherings with social games- Man, don't get angry, Travel the world, Monopoly. We noticed that this makes beneficiaries very happy considering the pandemic and the restrictions. We hope that during 2022 we will be able to organize many activities, gatherings, parties and visits for all interested beneficiaries and that the COVID-19 pandemic will end and that we will be able to normally realize fun activities for children at the orphanage.
Plans for the coming months:
- Programming and robotics workshops
- Web programming for elderly of JU "Dom porodica"
- Workshops for young people on how to use their free time
- Workshops in the field of ecology and environmental protection
