Summary

Hunger in Mokwa part of Niger state is rising due to extreme drought, leaving families without food for months. This project empowers 150 smallholder farmers with drought-resistant seeds, essential tools, and climate-smart training. We will boost crop yields by 40%, ensuring sustainable food security and income for 1,000+ vulnerable people, breaking the cycle of poverty and malnutrition in the Sahel.

Challenge

In Niger state, 80% of the population relies on agriculture, yet climate change is destroying their livelihoods. Erratic rainfall and degraded soil cause frequent harvest failures, forcing families into the "lean season"-months of severe hunger. Without access to modern seeds or fertilizers, farmers cannot adapt. This crisis traps families in poverty, with children suffering the most from malnutrition and lack of educational opportunities due to economic hardship.

Solution

We provide a complete "Harvest Success Kit" to 150 farmers, ensuring they thrive despite the harsh climate. The project delivers high-yield, drought-tolerant seeds (millet/cowpea) and fertilizers to boost production. We also conduct hands-on training in climate-smart techniques like Zai pits and water harvesting. This combination of resources and education ensures crops survive dry spells, directly addressing the root causes of food insecurity.

Long-Term Impact

This project builds permanent resilience against climate change for 150 families. By securing reliable harvests, farmers can feed their children year-round and sell surplus crops to fund healthcare and school fees. The training provided creates local experts who share knowledge, spreading sustainable farming practices throughout the region. Ultimately, we are transforming a community from aid-dependent to self-sufficient, ensuring stability for generations.
