Empowering Healing Through Art Therapy

By Delman Kareem | Head of PR and Fundraising

Jiyan Foundation's Qamishlo team successfully implemented an intensive art therapy training program. This initiative aimed to enhance the skills of our dedicated therapists in treating children grappling with the devastating effects of trauma, aggression, and special needs. By arming our therapists with trauma-informed art therapy techniques, we are creating nurturing environments where these vulnerable children can express themselves, build resilience, and embark on their journey towards healing.

Key Achievements:

  • Trained Therapists: A group of skilled therapists from Jiyan Foundation's Qamishlo team underwent rigorous training in art therapy techniques.
  • Enhanced Therapeutic Skills: The training equipped therapists with practical tools to address the unique needs of children suffering from PTSD, aggression, and special needs.
  • Creating Safe Spaces: By incorporating art therapy into their practice, therapists are fostering safe and supportive environments where children can process their traumatic experiences and express their emotions.
  • Empowered Children: Art therapy provides a powerful medium for kids to communicate their feelings, reduce anxiety, and develop coping mechanisms.

Impact on Beneficiaries:

The impact of this training will be far reaching, benefiting numerous children in need. By empowering our therapists with specialised skills, we are directly contributing to

  • Improved Mental Health: Enhanced therapeutic interventions will lead to improved mental health outcomes for children.
  • Reduced Trauma Symptoms: Art therapy can help alleviate symptoms of PTSD, such as nightmares, flashbacks, and hypervigilance.
  • Increased Resilience: By developing coping strategies and self-expression skills, children will become more resilient in the face of adversity.
  • Enhanced Social Skills: Art therapy can foster social interaction, empathy, and cooperation among children.

Future Plans:

Jiyan Foundation remains committed to providing quality mental health services to vulnerable populations. Building upon the success of this art therapy training, we plan to:

  • Expand Training Programs: Offer additional training opportunities to therapists in other regions.
  • Develop Curricula: Create comprehensive art therapy curricula tailored to the specific needs of trauma survivors and children with special needs.
  • Collaborate with experts: Partner with renowned art therapists and psychologists to further strengthen our programs.
  • Monitor and Evaluate: Continuously assess the impact of art therapy interventions through rigorous evaluation methods.

Your generous support has made this impactful training possible. We are grateful for your partnership in empowering healing and hope. Together, we can create a brighter future for these vulnerable children.
