Since August 2018, an Ebola outbreak has been raging in the North Kivu region of Democratic Republic of Congo. ALIMA arrived and started treating patients within days. Our medical teams are currently running two Ebola treatment centers and three integrated transit centers where suspected patients can come and be tested safely. We also provide psychological support for patients and caregivers, integration and training of local health staff in the centers.
Since August 2018, an outbreak of Ebola has been raging in the North Kivu province of Democratic Republic of Congo. This is the second deadliest outbreak of the disease since it was discovered and it has taken the lives of over 1,600 people and the number of people infected is growing daily. What sets this outbreak apart is that it is in a war zone as ongoing violence in the area has impacted made accessing and treating safely patients very difficult.
ALIMA specializes in providing high-quality medical care and humanitarian assistance in emergencies and is one of the few organizations skilled to provide medical care in highly contagious outbreaks of diseases such as Ebola. Drawing from our experience responding to the West Africa Ebola outbreak, the largest outbreak of Ebola ever recorded, ALIMA developed innovative solutions responding to outbreaks such as these and was called to respond to the outbreak within days of declaration.
ALIMA has years of experience responding to highly contagious diseases and is able to mobilize response quickly when the need arises. Not only to treat and isolate patients but also to train the local health staff and working together with them in the response to increase their capacity to respond to this and future outbreaks.
