The Almond Project is a non-formal education and psychosocial development program for 5 to 11-year-olds in six rural areas of Faisalabad, focusing on brick kiln communities. Led by AWARD Pakistan and For the Love of a Child (FLOC), the project will enroll 240 working children in two shifts per location. It includes education, psychosocial support, health and hygiene sessions, self-help activities, and parental engagement to break the cycle of poverty and bring healing, hope, and transformation
Children in Faisalabad's brick kiln communities face extreme poverty, child labor, and lack of education. With no access to schools, they remain trapped in generational illiteracy. Many working children suffer from poor health, malnutrition, and psychosocial distress due to exploitative labor conditions. Parents, often unaware of the importance of education, prioritize work over learning. Without intervention, these children remain vulnerable to exploitation, perpetuating the cycle of poverty.
The Almond Project provides foundational education, emotional well-being support, and life skills to 240 children, equipping them with literacy, numeracy, and psychosocial development. Through trained facilitators and engaging methods, children will receive non-formal education in flexible shifts. Health and hygiene sessions will empower families, while self-help activities foster resilience. Parental engagement will strengthen community involvement, ensuring long-term impact.
The project will empower 240 children with literacy, numeracy, and psychosocial skills, reducing child labor risks and improving self-confidence. Parental awareness will lead to better health and education choices. Over time, educated children will break free from generational poverty, developing economic stability in their families. This pilot phase will provide scalable insights, paving the way for an expanded, sustainable model in other vulnerable communities.
