Since October 7, 2023, Americares has worked to address the urgent health needs of children and adults affected by the crisis. We remain steadfast in our commitment to support health services for people in Gaza suffering from famine, malnutrition, forced displacement and violence by prioritizing the most urgent medical needs of civilians caught in the crossfire. Our work includes increasing access to medical care, medicine, medical supplies and mental health support.
Gaza faces a a catastrophic health and hunger crisis as people in Gaza live in unimaginable conditions. Children are acutely malnourished, there are no fully functioning hospitals, thousands are sheltering in tents with little protection from harsh weather and inadequate water and sanitation, and aid remains restricted - leaving families in life threatening conditions despite ongoing humanitarian efforts.
Americares has medicines and medical supplies ready to deliver and is prepared to rapidly mobilize additional shipments of aid. We fund and equip partners on the ground, providing lifesaving care and mental health support. Since Oct 2023, we've supplied 35 tons of aid, supported 43K patients and reached 27K people with mental health services. Our expansive partner network includes local and international aid organizations allowing us to rapidly channel aid as the situation evolves.
Contributions will support the provision of health-focused humanitarian aid as well as response and recovery programming, including mental health support. The crisis is incredibly complex and continuously evolving. We know the longer the war goes on, the more support will be needed for survivors and frontline responders. We have a long history of supporting health care systems in the region with deliveries of medicine and medical supplies, and support for health programs.
