In Njeru Municipality, Uganda, entire communities of adolescent girls have never been asked about their lives. While some areas received attention, rural villages like Mbikko remain completely unserved. No listening exercise or needs assessment has reached them. Child mothers, out-of-school girls, and commercial sex workers stay invisible. Without their voices, programs miss those who need help most.
This project will reach every unserved community in Mbikko. We will train 20 local Community Listeners to conduct listening circles with 420+ adolescent girls. Through age-based groups, girls share who holds power, where they feel unsafe, and what they need. Their voices become a final Girls' Voice Report used to design real programs.
This project's data will shape girl-led programs for years. Unserved communities gain a voice. BTRMU gains evidence to design effective interventions. Girls gain visibility. The final Girls' Voice Report will be used to secure funding for long-term empowerment initiatives-breaking the cycle of exclusion and invisibility for adolescent girls across Mbikko.
