In the last week of April and the first week of May the majority of cases seen were that of fractures and mouth ulcers. Road accidents and traffic were accountable for fractures and wounds in animals. Due to scorching heat of summer, the animals had ulcers in their mouth. Dehydration cases were prevalent too. Cats and dogs were majorly treated by all the vans.
The animals were kept on fluid therapy to rehydrate.
To prevent such incidents awareness camps are being conducted. Public interactions are done to make people alert about the water needs of animals as per the weather. Water pots were distributed on weekend amongst the people to put outside their houses and offices to help animals be accessible to water. Information leaflets were also distributed that said about the do’s and don’ts that are to be kept in mind when it comes to caring for stray animals. People are asked to drive sensibly in order to save animals and avoid road accidents.
In the last week of April and the first week of May there were total 310 new cases. They were treated by respective vans as follows: A1 – 116, A2 – 90, and A3 – 104
The follow up cases were: A1 – 111, A2 – 109, and A3 – 104. In all 233 cases were closed after proper treatment and follow up.
Approximately 120 dogs were vaccinated against rabies and in all around 290 public interactions took place for rabies awareness and dog bite first-aid.
