Reptiles are important part of both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.. Reptiles include snakes, lizards, crocodiles , tortoises and turtles.

Reptiles are experiencing drastic population declines, caused by habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation, as well as climate change, predation and competition from invasive species, illegal collection, poaching and pollution.

Our organization receives about four to five cases of injured, sick, captive and pets abandoned or neglected babies as well as adult tortoises, snakes and turtles every two months.

We treat them, restore them in our campus  till they recover or grow up and then release them in their natural habitat from where they were collected or brought by kind hearted people.

These species need varied atmosphere and areas as per their nature for recovery and growing up.

We receive a lot of Star tortoises here at our hospital, a majority of them were previously kept indoors as pets.

Some of the tortoises that come in are in such bad conditions due to sheer negligence and bad husbandry.

Most of these sad pets have been kept on slippery tiled floors, indoors without sunlight and kept on a diet chiefly consisting of cucumber. This causes major damage to an otherwise sturdy little reptile.

Tortoises need a lot of sunlight, large open areas with mud to roam around and forage for a more nutritious diet than just cucumbers. 

After the newly admitted reptiles have cleared quarantine, they are then shifted to our outdoor enclosure for a more suitable environment. .

Physiotherapy is also given to cases of fractured reptiles atleast for 15 days depending on their symptoms. It is also followed by hydrotherapy, exercise and a good diet.

Surgery is also performed under certain conditions. After successful surgery and post operative care, the recovered and well raised reptiles are released in their natural habitat.
