It's not Any Tuesday- It's Giving Tuesday

By Dr. Laila Risgallah Wahba | Project Leader

Dear Not Guilty Supporter,

With your help, GlobalGiving will give away more than $500,000 in matching funds and prizes to nonprofits all over the world on December 3, 2019.

I will call her Alyaa, though this is not her real name. I do not want anyone to know her real identity.

Alyaa is 12 years old with bright red hair. She wears a veil that barely covers her hair. Her red hair and freckles caused her siblings and neighbors to tease her incessantly since the day she was born. There was no one in her family with this color of hair or these freckles.

Alyaa's teeth are separated; you can see them when she laughs, and she laughs a lot, for she is a fun-loving girl.

Her family loves her, she is drenched in love and care.

Alyaa walked to school every day. It was a ten-minute walk in the middle of the fields that surrounded her home. She would usually walk back with her school friends who lived on the same street.

One day, Alyaa had to stay late at school because she was part of the end of year school drama. She did not think anything of it when her friends told her not to take the field road, but to take the long route on her way back, as she will be on her own. When she got out of school, it was almost dark, but she thought that it would be much shorter and quicker to return through the field. "I will be home in ten minutes and have a hot bath and a freshly cooked supper."

As she walked back, she heard some footsteps behind her. She thought nothing of it until she felt whoever it was getting closer and closer. She started running, but the man behind her overtook her. He put his hand over her mouth, and...he raped her.

Alyaa returned home, disheveled and dirty..not only her clothes, but that's how she felt dirty, ashamed, and guilty.

When she told her parents what happened, she expected the love and protection she was accustomed to. But, alas, the unexpected happened: they blamed her for the rape.

"It's your fault, Alyaa, because you wear your veil loosely and show your red hair to everyone who wants to peak." Her father screamed.

"You must have been laughing on your way home, so you enticed that person to rape you." Her mother retorted.

Alyaa has not gone to school since that day. She locks herself in her room and does not want to see anyone.

Not Guilty is now counseling Alyaa and her parents to bypass this tragedy.

Not Guilty teaches children aged 3 to 18 how to protect themselves from sexual abuse, but that's not all. We also train the parents on how to handle rape and sexual abuse reports. Alyaa's parents' reaction is a crime.

You can help.

In 2019 Not Guilty trained 1828 children aged 3-18 on how to protect themselves from sexual abuse, 250 parents, 60 girl scout leaders, and 26 teachers and caregivers.

In 2020 our goal is to train 2500 kids, 500 parents, 120 girl scouts, and 100 teachers and caregivers.

We need to raise 24K before 31 December 2019.

All your donations are tax-deductible.

As the year ends, we pray that the burden God put on your heart is still there and that you would consider setting up a monthly donation.
