Parenting 5-12 year olds

By Dr. Laila Risgallah Wahba | Project Leader

Covid has made training 5-12 years old almost an imp0ossibility. But at Not Guilty we turn every problem into an opportunity.

Since COVID cases in schools have sky rockted and kids are zoomed out, we thought of training the parents on how to protect their children from sexual abuse.

We have so far trained over 150 parents. It is amazing how many misconceptions parents have about sexual abuse.

Understanding sexual abuse/abusers

Facts vs misconceptions

  1. Sexual abuse- size of problem

Some of the misconceptions we tackle are:

1. The size of the problem. Sexual abuse is a very big problem.
2.Over 60 million sexual abuse victims  are living in Egypt.

1 in 4 girls and one in six guys are sexually abused before the age of 18.
3. Guys don’t report.
4. Almost  66% do not tell anyone about the abuse until they are adults, if ever.

Average age of male molesters who prefers boys begins victimization at age13 to 14. Average age of prosecution is 35 years old.

Number of victims of a male abuser

Who molests boys: 150 victims prior to being reported, if ever.

Who molests girls: 52 prior to being prosecuted

Oh this upsets me. I have to be upset so it does not be the story of my child.

  1. We rely heavily on background checks
less than 4% encounter the criminal justice system which generates a criminal record.
  2. Sexual Abuser: No visual profile
    When I grew up.

We always teach our children about Stranger danger. But in stranger danger we ar4e only talking about the abduction offender who only constitutes 4% of total cases.

We need to teach our children about the preferential offender who prefer and groom certain ages.

Preferential offenders constitute 94%:  like Dr. Larry Nassar who preferred girls ages 10-15.

In fact Larry Nassar is the cause I wrote my book, What Happens After #MeToo- Tackling the Icerberg.

You can order it on amazon if you would like to elarn more about protecting your kids.

Let us join hands. This is not a one person or one organization job. It is a global effort.

Thank you for being part of the solution.

You are Not Guilty's champions.
