By Dr. Laila Risgallah Wahba | Founder, Not Guilty
“Help me raise a child who knows their voice has value.”
We hear this, or something very similar, in our day to day at Not Guilty.
Silence is one of the greatest barriers to child safety. At Not Guilty, we believe that awareness is prevention—and that giving children language, permission, and confidence can change outcomes in real time.
Through education, workshops, and parent-centered prevention strategies, Not Guilty is equipping families to replace fear with clarity and silence with strength. The following report illustrates how one simple conversation—rooted in awareness—protected a child and transformed fear into power.
The Problem: Silence Leaves Children Vulnerable
Many caregivers hesitate to talk about body safety due to fears of:
However, children are already exposed to boundary-crossing behaviors through peers, digital media, and everyday interactions. When adults remain silent, children are left without language or permission to speak up.
Silence does not protect children—it removes their ability to recognize and report harm.
Program Impact: A Real-Life Outcome
During a Not Guilty prevention workshop, a mother named Layla expressed discomfort with the topic of body safety. Like many parents, she worried that discussing boundaries might frighten her child. Still, she committed to starting with one simple sentence:
“If someone makes you uncomfortable, even just a little, you can walk away and tell me. I will always listen.”
Two months later, while shopping in a toy store, a 16-year-old boy attempted to force a kiss on Layla’s 10-year-old daughter.
Instead of freezing, the child stepped back, ran to her mother, and said clearly:
“That wasn’t okay.”
Layla later shared:
“It wasn’t fear I saw in her—it was power.”
This moment reflects the core of Not Guilty’s mission: when children have language and permission, they can act.
