Mary cannot enjoy her newborn baby son.
She wants to love him, but she does not know how.
She wished she had a daughter.
Mary has been sexually abused when she was 7 years old by the neighbor’s son. She could not tell her mother about the incident because her mother would not have believed her.
When she was 16, she started having a lot of siutors for marriage (Egypt has a lot of arranged marriages). Fearing the constant questions of her mother of why she did not agree to any suitor who came , she was forced to marry the first man who proposed.
Like many abuse survivors she hated having sex with her husband because she felt it was abuse. When she found she was pregnant, things became even worse. And when the newborn was a baby boy, she could not love him because he will grow up to be a man.. like her abuser.
She could not breast feed her son. Why? Because she felt he was abusing her. She would not change his pampers, lest she be abusing him.
We can prevent a lot of this happening to our daughters. Prevention through education is what Not Guilty for Family Develoment does.
With Mother’s day coming up, help make our daughters safe by donating on May 13- Global Giving matching fund day. http://goto.gg/19978
