Challenge

There are innumerable children in India coming from disadvantaged backgrounds where parents often cannot afford to send them to school at all. As per the 2011 census data, as many as 7.8 million children are forced to earn a livelihood even whilst attending schools with more than 84 million children who still don't go to school at all.

Solution

This programme started in 1981 and in the last 30 years and is currently supporting more than 70,000 students with free education. However, the demand is huge and there is still a long way to go. The project can make a major and an increasing contribution to solving the problem of lack of child education, and in time, adult ignorance and illiteracy.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term Impact can be a massive outreach to an increasing number of students and their families whose lives and communities can be transformed with education. The project has a proven positive record with a consistent increase in the number of students benefiting every year. Hopefully, with the support donors via Global Giving, the project can reach to more and more children and their communities who can benefit via the free schools and the respective services.
