Summary

The Ashinaga Africa Initiative supports talented orphaned students to enroll at top global universities. They are committed to returning to the African continent post-graduation to contribute to its development. To do so, we provide them with career training, including access to a quality internship on the continent. Due to the recent pandemic, internships abroad have been cancelled. We are offering online solutions to deliver the high-quality training scholars need to succeed in their careers.

Challenge

Over 150 of the Scholars we support are missing important networking opportunities as well as chances to develop their professional capacity. 15 of them will be unable to complete an internship before graduation. This will impact their professional prospects, affecting employability, and the development of skills they need to succeed in their careers. Additional resources are needed to compensate for this loss and to provide more funding for current and future career-related programs.

Solution

We will provide Scholars graduating soon access to remote internships online, with companies who do meaningful work and offer close guidance. We will also match Scholars to mentors, who will coach them in tailored 4-to-6-week online courses. Additionally, we will provide extra funding for internships next year. Candidates preparing to begin their studies abroad will also be supported remotely. We need your support to unlock these resources.

Long-Term Impact

The AAI is a leadership program that aims to empower the next generation of African leaders. We expect 90% of students to work in a field that directly impacts the SDGs. Access to career development programs will strengthen networks and provide experience. This will increase employability post-graduation and familiarize Scholars with issues they aim to address. Your support now is an investment in a generation of leaders, committed to dedicating their careers to achieve sustainable development.
