Educate 300 Guatemalan Children

Dear supporters and friends of The GOD'S CHILD Project,

Thank you very much for your continued support and prayers for the children here in Guatemala. Without the constant support of individuals like you we would not be able to help change the lives of children who were once abandoned, orphaned, or living on the streets of Guatemala, like Jose.

Jose is a young boy who was abandoned by his mother when he was only seven years old.  His mother and father both physically abused him. 

Jose’s maternal grandmother took on the responsibility of caring for him and his two brothers after they were abandoned. In the beginning their father provided some economic support; however he is currently in jail, leaving the grandmother to take care of the three boys by herself with the support of The GOD’S CHILD Project.

Jose has a genetic problem which has resulted in the loss of sight in one eye, however with the help of The GOD’S CHILD Project and donated funds like yours he was able to have a cornea transplant.  Unfortunately even with a successful surgery the cornea was rejected, so his grandmother and the project are working together to have another surgery preformed to regain the use of this eye.  This is especially important for him because he is currently suffering from headaches and is required to squint to see with his good eye. Jose also suffers from a skin condition, where he is incredibly sensitive to sunlight and burns easily.  As his grandmother says with so much love, “I have a huge responsibility with my grandson as he requires extra care because of his eyes and his sensitive skin.”

Despite his painful history and current challenges Jose loves to study and likes to help work around the house with his grandmother. As he is the oldest child and his grandparents are very old, he is responsible for helping his younger brothers with their homework and their activities around the home. His grandparents are receiving support from The GOD’S CHILD Project to help cover some of the cost of caring for the children, along with all the educational needs for each child.

Jose is currently studying at the Scheel Center, and his teachers always comment on how diligent he is as a student and how well he works with the other students.  When he grows up he wants to be a doctor not only to help his family, but to help all of the people who need assistance!

His grandparents and the staff at The GOD’ S CHILD Project are all very proud of his accomplishments and look forward to seeing how quickly he is able to reach his goals throughout his educational endeavors. His grandmother said with a huge smile, “though it has been difficult for him and his brothers, we are so happy to see how far he has come. It has been hard for all of us, but due to the help of The GOD’S CHILD Project we are able to see a brighter future for all three boys, and are very grateful for all of the support we are receiving especially for his eyes and education.”
