Giving Hope Through Education for Needy Children

Project Overview

The Assist Needy Parents Educate a Child project is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by increasing access to education for children from vulnerable and low-income households in Kenya. Many families we serve face significant financial challenges, making it difficult to consistently meet school-related expenses such as tuition, uniforms, and learning materials.Through this initiative, we partner with parents, schools, and the community to ensure that children not only enroll in school but remain there and thrive academically and socially.

Progress and Activities During the Reporting Period

During the last three months, the project focused on ensuring continuity of education for beneficiary children through targeted financial and material support. Key activities included:

School Fees Support: We facilitated the payment of school fees for 56 children at risk of dropping out, ensuring uninterrupted learning.
Provision of Learning Materials: 150 beneficiaries received essential items such as uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, and stationery.
Parental Engagement: We conducted regular follow-ups with parents/guardians to monitor children's attendance, performance, and well-being.
School Collaboration: Close coordination with school administrators helped us track student progress and identify additional needs early.
Mentorship and Encouragement: Informal mentorship sessions were provided to motivate students and reinforce the importance of education.

Key Achievements

Supported 165 children with access to education.
Improved school attendance and retention rates by 68% among beneficiaries.
Cases of absenteeism reduced by 35% s the lerners could esily get school fees nd other materials.
Strengthened collaboration with local schools and community stakeholders.
Increased parental commitment toward supporting their children’s education.

Impact Stories

This project continues to create life-changing impact at both individual and family levels.

One notable example is a student who had previously missed several weeks of school due to unpaid fees. Through this project’s support, the student was able to return to school, regain confidence, and significantly improve academic performance. The child’s parent expressed deep gratitude, noting that the support restored hope and dignity to the family.Such stories reflect the broader transformation we are witnessing—children staying in school, performing better, and believing in a brighter future.

Overall Impact

The project’s impact extends beyond education. By keeping children in school:

Families experience reduced financial stress.
Children gain confidence, stability, and hope.
Communities benefit from increased literacy and future opportunities.

Education remains one of the most powerful tools for long-term social and economic transformation, and this project is contributing meaningfully toward that goal.

Challenges Encountered

Despite the progress, the project faced several challenges:

High Demand vs. Limited Resources: The number of needy children continues to exceed available funding.
Rising Education Costs: Increasing school fees and cost of materials strain both families and project resources.
Delayed Funding Cycles: At times, delays in funding affected the timeliness of fee payments.

We continue to adapt and prioritize the most urgent cases while seeking sustainable solutions.

Lessons Learned

Early identification and intervention are critical in preventing school dropouts.
Strong relationships with schools improve monitoring and accountability.
Supporting both the child and the parent creates more sustainable impact.
Even small contributions can make a significant difference when well-coordinated.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, we aim to:

Expand the number of beneficiaries reached by the project.
Strengthen structured mentorship and life-skills programs for students.
Build partnerships with local institutions and stakeholders to scale impact.
Enhance monitoring and evaluation systems for better tracking of outcomes.
Intensify fundraising efforts to ensure long-term sustainability.

Financial Overview

Funds totllying to $1219.20 received during this period were utilized primarily for:

School fees payments
Purchase of uniforms and learning materials
Administrative and follow-up activities

Because Every Child Deserves a Chance

Director Addressing the Beneficiaries

Introduction

Over the past four months, the Assist a Needy Parent Educate a Child project has continued to provide educational relief and stability to 86 vulnerable children within our community. This period has seen increased need due to economic pressures on low-income households, but thanks to our donors, we have been able to keep many children in school and support parents who face severe financial challenges.

Key Activities Achieved

a) School Fees Assistance

During this period, the project supported 86 learners with partial or full school fee payments. Many were at risk of missing the new school term due to outstanding balances. The support ensured continuity in their learning and prevented dropouts.

b) Provision of Uniforms & Learning Materials

We distributed:

School uniforms and sweaters
Shoes and socks
Exercise books, pens, mathematical sets, and textbooks

These contributions helped restore dignity and improved participation in class, especially for children who previously shared or lacked basic supplies.

c) Feeding Support for Vulnerable Learners

The Centre continued to provide 2 meals a day to all children . Teachers have reported improved alertness and fewer absentee cases among the beneficiaries.

d) Psychosocial Support & Mentorship

Students received counselling and mentorship sessions every Thursday dubbed "Discovery Service" focused on discipline, academic focus, emotional and spiitual wellbeing. This played a significant role in helping learners who face stressful home environments.

e) Parent Engagement Sessions

We conducted two parent engagement meetings aimed at:

Improving parents’ involvement in their children’s education
Encouraging positive parenting practices
Linking parents to small livelihood opportunities where possible

Impact Over the Last 4 Months

Reduced absenteeism: Children we supported with fees and meals attended school more consistently.
Improved academic performance: Teachers noted better concentration and higher test scores among supported learners.
Restored dignity: Uniforms and learning materials improved children’s confidence and participation.
Strengthened household resilience: Parents expressed relief from financial stress, improving family stability.
Enhanced community trust: More families are engaging with the Centre, seeking guidance and support.

Beneficiary Highlight

One notable case is a young boy David from a single-parent household. For weeks, he was on the verge of being sent home due to a fee balance. Through donor support, we cleared the fees, and enrolled him in the feeding program. Today he attends school daily, shows improved performance, and his mother expressed deep gratitude for the lifeline offered during a very difficult season.

Challenges Experienced

Rising cost of basic school supplies has stretched available resources.
Increase in the number of needy children, making it difficult to support all applicants.
Some parents remain unemployed, increasing reliance on the Centre.
Inflation has affected food supplies for the feeding program.

Despite these challenges, we have worked diligently to ensure transparency, accountability, and maximum use of available resources as clearly shown in our annual financial reports.

Plans for the Next Phase

Expand support to reach more children on the waiting list.
Strengthen income-generating and skills programs for parents.
Improve psychosocial support for children in high-risk households.
Continue enhancing academic support and mentorship programs.
Explore partnerships to strengthen school feeding sustainability.

Because of You, Dreams Are Alive

Parents Empowerment Forum

1. Introduction

The Assist Needy Parents Educate a Child project aims to break the cycle of poverty by providing support to disadvantaged parents so they can keep their children in school. Many parents in our community are struggling to meet the costs of tuition, uniforms, books, and other essential learning materials. Through this project, We seek to bridge that gap and ensure that no child is denied an education due to financial hardship.

2. Activities and Progress

Over the last 4 months, the project has achieved the following milestones:

School Fee Support: Provided full or partial school fee payments for 63 children from needy families, enabling them to remain in school without interruption.
Learning Materials: Distributed textbooks, exercise books, pens, and other stationery to 110students.
Parental Empowerment Sessions: Conducted a training sessions with parents on budgeting, income generation, and the importance of education.
Mentorship Program: Linked 150 children with mentors from Talitha Teens Foundation and also our own staff who offer academic guidance and moral support.

3. Impact Stories

One of our beneficiaries, David, is a bright student who was at risk of dropping out due to unpaid school fees. With your support, we paid his tuition, supplied him with school materials, and provided a mentor to guide his academic journey. Today, he ranks among the top in his class and dreams of becoming a doctor. He is also currently the Primary school Captain that has helped him shapen his Leadership skills This transformation is only possible because of your generosity.

This is but just one of the several cases that your generosity has enabled us to achieve.

4. Challenges Faced

Rising Costs: Inflation has increased the cost of uniforms and school supplies, stretching available funds.
High Demand: More families are seeking assistance than we currently have resources to support.

5. Next Steps

Expand our donor base to support more children in the upcoming term.
Increase community engagement through workshops and volunteer programs.
Partner with local schools for reduced tuition rates for project beneficiaries.
Introduce one on one Donor-beneficiary relatioship where a Donor can walk with a given number of students and see them through their Education , mentor them and even plan for occassional visits to encourage them.
