This project is intended to address the critical needs of people suffering from sickle cell anaemia and their families. We wish to alleviate their suffering through the provision of treatment and also boost their household economic status to ensure that they eat good food that will help boost their immunity. We are committed to the prevention of spread of the disease through a robust genetic counselling and enlightenment program which we are targeting the youths.
in Kaduna State Nigeria where we are proposing to work the cost of medical care is high. Most patients with sickle cell anaemia find it difficult to meet up with the hospital bills. This has resulted in many deaths. Blood transfusion which is often required is very expensive even if one comes with their donors. Medical Laboratory investigations for many is a luxury. They will rather go for the drugs and forget the investigations.
1. To mobilize and sensitize relevant stakeholders to appreciate the plight of people with sickle cell disease. 2. To prevent further spread of sickle cell genes through genetic screening and counselling. 3. To ensure the provision of quality and comprehensive medical care to people with sickle cell disease. 4. To conduct home visit to provide home based care and psychosocial support to people with sickle cell disease. 5. To provide household economic strengthening to families of victims
The long term impacts of the project include 1. Long life for people with Sickle Cell Disease as they access drugs as at when due 2. Ability of victims to attend school regularly and reach their potentials as crises and hospitalization reduces 3. Increase in household income as families aretrained in income generation 4. Victims live healthier lifestyle as they are counsel on nutrition couple with the ability to buy good food from proceed of income generation
