This project will help supply families with the tools needed to keep kids engaged and inspired to create and learn at home this summer by providing At Home Discovery Kits to low-income families in the United States Virgin Islands.
The VICM is committed to continuing to be an informal education resource for the community while the museum doors are temporarily closed due to COVID-19. Many children in the territory do not have access to electronic media or other developmental resources in their homes.
By providing advanced Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math (STREAM) based kits for kids of low-income families we can help children throughout our community have opportunities to Explore, Play, Discover in their homes during the pandemic this summer.
Discovery Kits are a means to bring informal education into the home by delivering books, art supplies, and science engineering/ experiment materials to those most in need. These kits will make it possible for young people to take initiative in improving their own science literacy and STREAM skills, foster understanding of real-world applications of science and ultimately promote lifelong learning.
