To the generous donors of our GlobalGiving At Home Discovery Kit campaign,

We are pleased to report that your charitable contributions helped us deliver 200 Water Science themed At Home Discovery Kits to low income families throughout the Virgin Islands. The water science discovery kits were curated for children from kindergarten through 5th grade and a more advanced kit was created for children in middle grades and high school with a total of 91 kits delivered to families on the island of St Thomas, 84 kits dispatched to families on St Croix, and 25 kits given to families on St John.

The water science discovery kit included items such as activity pages, books, colored pencils, crayons, fidget toys, posters, stickers, and citizen science projects to help foster an understanding of the real world applications of science. The VICM believes kids can contribute to the scientific process in meaningful ways if given the tools and inspiration to do so! A youth-friendly home water-testing kit empowered kids to do chemistry experiments in their homes and report their findings online to add to a science data set on home water quality in the territory. The water quality information the youth are collecting is already being submitted to and analyzed by scientists at the University of the Virgin Islands.

The At Home Discovery Kit program is ongoing and our next distribution will be an Earth science discovery kit curated for elementary school-aged children to be distributed in November. Thank you for helping us help kids Explore, Play, Discover, at home.

Sincerely,

The VICM Team
