GlobalGiving Discovery Kit Report #7

To promote family engagement and inspire families to continue learning together while at home, the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum is developing its 7th At Home Discovery Kit! The VICM is exploring a partnership with the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Health to create a human health themed discovery kit to be distributed early in the new year.

Generous GlobalGiving donor support continues to help us develop and distribute science, technology, reading, engineering, arts and humanities, mathematics (STREAM) based discovery kits for youth throughout the territory. Anyone who interacts with small children knows they touch and share everything, including germs. Illnesses can spread quickly in social settings and at home. Fun activities that teach proper handwashing techniques and other health and wellness content can reduce the spread of germs and risk of infection. We aim to make science fun for kids by encouraging them to practice good hygiene, learn how vaccines work, and provide easy-to-understand answers to common questions about vaccination, colds and flu prevention measures, and the steps of handwashing presented in a fun and enjoyable way. Discovery kit 7 will provide fun and educational activities as well as resources for families on human health issues such as immunizations and hygiene via worksheets, games, coloring pages and activity books, crayons, pencils and/or other school supplies suitable to complete the activities therein.

The At Home Discovery Kit program is an ongoing GlobalGiving.org fundraising initiative: At Home Discovery Kits for VI Families (47832).

Thank you for supporting the Virgin Islands Children’s Museum At Home Discovery Kit program!

Sincerely,

The VICM Team
