An at-risk youth in Cambodia needs a safe place to grow and develop. Mission DOVE Cambodia nurtures 200 at-risk Cambodian youth to reach their potential through leadership clubs, reading clubs, English classes, art and computer classes, and free counseling. Youth can join clubs and small groups in DOVE's safe learning environment in Phnom Penh.
Many Cambodian youth experience stress from difficult family situations that often include domestic violence and abuse at home. Public schools are overcrowded, and youth from poorer families have few options for engaging in healthy activities with their peers. Boredom and the pain of family life can lead youth to experimenting with substances and addictions. Youth need safe places to gather and engage in constructive learning activities.
We build relationships with at-risk youth in our community and invite them to join leadership clubs, reading clubs, English and art classes. These small groups are a source of support and stability for these youth. In our clubs, youth grow in critical thinking and self-awareness and are mobilized to serve their communities. We provide safe places and relationships to process painful experiences, and youth can also receive free mental health counseling.
This project will reach 200 at-risk Cambodian youth who will grow in leadership, emotional maturity, and critical thinking. As youth transform their pain, they will stop transferring their pain to others and thus stop the cycle of violence in their families and communities.
