Atlas Corps: Building Bridges for Social Impact

Happy (almost) New Year!

Last year, Atlas Corps put out an ambitious call to action - to double the size of our organization. In 2011, in honor of our 5th Anniversary and the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps, we wanted to engage 50 Fellows from 25 countries in 100,000 hours of service. Now, I'm proud to report - WE DID IT!!!

Thank you for your belief in our mission. Thank you for being an active part of our network. And, above all, thank you for your support. Fellow Lillian Sowande (Nigeria) captures the power of this network:

"The best part of being a Fellow is about the relationships built. Relationships that will surpass the time frame of the Fellowship. It is about hanging out with people I never knew and discovering that we have lots of friends in common. It is about visiting Turkey, Nepal, Mexico or Colombia and not having to worry about where to lay my head, or India and knowing I will be well fed, or Egypt knowing I have my back covered or Uganda or Zimbabwe where a family welcome awaits me there. It is about collaborating with world nonprofit leaders to make change happen. It is about you and me and the generation that will benefit from our relationship."

To celebrate, I share with you the Top 5 Highlights of our 5th Year...Atlas Corps style:

• Achieved goal of 50 Fellows in the 50th Anniversary of the Peace Corps.
• Placed Fellows in 4 new cities: Atlanta, Minneapolis, New York, and San Francisco.
  Including the addition of new Host Organizations like GBCHealth, Habitat for Humanity, Points of Light Institute, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
• Expanded reach by engaging Fellows from a total of 30 countries.
  Added new countries (Argentina, Costa Rica, Egypt, Ghana, Haiti, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sudan, Tanzania, and Yemen) and received applications from more than 150 countries.
• Notified that 2 alumni (Pinky Pradhan and Katia Dantas) named Top 99 Under 33 Foreign Policy Leaders by Diplomatic Courier Magazine.
• Doubled our Fellow network to 100 Fellows and growing!

Of course, these achievements happen only because of the support of our network. In our first five years, Atlas Corps proved that when a group of committed individuals unite their investments of $20, $50, or $100, impact happens on a global scale. Let's keep generating that support for global exchange and citizen diplomacy! This year, give the gift of service.
