WORKSHOPS TO MAKE VISIBILITY OF THE GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE EXPERIENCED BY REFUGE WOMEN AND MIGRANTS IN PERU
58.6% of the Venezuelan refugee and migrant population in Peru are women, of which it is estimated that more than 50% have been victims of Gender-Based Violence, mostly by their partners, husbands or companions.
APPV's commitment to these statistics is to provide necessary tools so that women know how to identify, prevent and stay safe from gender-based violence. To add to this objective, we have been collaborating with psychology students from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in their psychology and violence chair.
In these workshops held with them, we present the real figures of the current situation faced by refugee and migrant women in Peru. We also provide spaces such as focus groups in which students have the opportunity to talk with women who were victims of domestic violence gender and want to share their experience to help other women.
As an organization focused on defending the rights and integrity of women, especially those who are refugees and migrants, we seek to disseminate and expand the support network so that more women can access to the help and information corresponding to each of their cases.
From AGTR and APPV we continue working so that the voices of refugee and migrant women are heard, so that their rights are respected, because there is only one path and we need to walk it without stereotypes towards integration.
