Hello everyone,
Thanks to the support of many people, including you, we manage to successfully keep running our Community Centre in Ioannina with the services and activities that have been a part of the centre from the beginning, and new and exciting additions. The Women's Space
On Wednesday's we have been constanly offering a Women's Space in the Centre. This means that we create a specific space for our female participants where they can have privacy, where they can rest, or do fun activities. Sometimes we do facemasks, nail polish, sometimes we all dance together, do creative projects or just sit and chat. This space has been very popular and highly demanded and we are happy that we can provide this service and hope to expand on this in the upcoming year.
Barber Shop
For a while, our barber shop was not running, as we did not have any professional to run the barber shop. Luckily, we now have found a great barber and an amazing hairdresser and it has been used very frequently by the visitors of the center. It is an important service to provide, as everyone deserves to feel good and have a nice haircut. The barber comes nearly every day and there is always demand - which is great to see !
Language Classes
While we have been running the language classes for a while now, we have successfully managed to run different language classes and different levels of language classes for a while now -- thanks to all our wonderful volunteers ! Besides offering English and German classes, we have also started offering Greek classes and it is great to see how excited everyone is to visit the classes and to bring consistency into this service and see the improvement of all the students.
Fun Events and Campaigns
The last few months, we were lucky enough to do many interesting events and campaigns at BAAS. We created a recipe book with recipes cooked in the centre and distributed it as part of the GlobalGiving Campaign (if you have not filled out the online form as a donor, pleaseee do so, so we can send you the book!). We also had a small charity concert in Ioannina to raise awareness for our work. Furthermore, partnering with Hirundo and Habibi.works, we brought the magic of storytelling of life with a special screening of the films from Hirundo's "Open Camp - A New Narrative from Children in Refugee Camps" project. We also celebrated BAAS' 2 years anniversary and this weekend we will do a winter celebration with fun games and music.
Free Clothes Shop, Community Kitchen, Sport and Music Activities, Kids' Activities
We constantly try to improve our running activities such as the Free Clothes Shop and the Community Kitchen - so it never stays boring ! We also started offering music workships and kickboxing classes to those that are interested, as well as versatile kids activities such as football tournaments, clay workshops, cookie decorations etc.
We are incredibly grateful for this past year and how much our community has grown - a special shoutout to all the wonderful volunteers that made this all possible and thank you to everyone who has in some way or another helped us get to where we are. Thank you for being part of the BAAS Family!
