Summary

Every day thousands of girls & boys in refugee camps in the Middle East and in Africa face dangers, threats and violence to do what is considered normal for other children: going to school. Helping them in their fight means ensuring that they receive an education to improve not only their present situation, but their future. Help COOPI in providing temporary education during emergencies for these little warriors. It is the best investment for a better world.

Challenge

In countries affected by an emergency schools shut down, funding is reduced or inexistent, and children and teenagers live in extreme and dangerous conditions, which not only affects their everyday life but can compromise their future. This is happening in Iraq, specifically in Ninewa governorate, where after 4 years of civil war a large number of displaced people are returning to their villages. It is therefore urgent to intervene and to guarantee the right to education of these children.

Solution

COOPI currently intervenes in Iraq by setting up temporary schools. This specific project is aimed at favouring the return in safe conditions to school life of the children of Aolo Azim village, in Qayyara disctrict, by setting-up a tent and providing school materials, educational and school activities and much more. Offering educational services in emergency situations is often equivalent to saving lives, because schools offer a safe learning space and can provide other fundamental services.

Long-Term Impact

Educating in emergency for COOPI not only means guaranteeing education, but at the same time offering psychological well-being, opportunities for growth and social cohesion. Education in emergency interventions have an impact not only on the children who benefit from the project, but on the whole community. This is due to the fact that schools in crisis contexts are an emblem of hope for today and tomorrow and real opportunities for future generations.
