The Caribbean Resilience Center's Disaster Capacity Building Project strengthens psychological resilience across the Caribbean. While our work is primarily in the Bahamas, we aim to train mental health professionals, raise awareness, and provide trauma-focused support through community workshops and counseling. Our goal is to reduce stigma, address climate-related trauma, and improve access to mental health services through regional collaboration, ensuring long-term community well-being.
The Caribbean Resilience Center addresses the growing mental health impact of climate change, worsened by more frequent and severe hurricanes. Over the past two decades, the Caribbean has faced over 190 Atlantic hurricanes, causing widespread devastation and loss of life. This ongoing vulnerability strains the region's mental and emotional well-being.
In response to these challenges, the Bahamas Resilience Center provides immediate relief and long-term mental health support in the Bahamas. The organization emphasizes the urgent need for a holistic approach to address the enduring psychological scars of extreme weather events, highlighting the importance of collaboration throughout the region.
The Bahamas Resilience Center's initiatives have the potential for profound long-term impact. By addressing the mental and emotional toll of recurring climate-induced adversities, the center contributes to the overall well-being of the Bahamian population. The focus on comprehensive mental health support systems recognizes the enduring psychological scars left by extreme weather events, fostering resilience beyond immediate relief efforts.
