We are so excited to provide updates about not just one but TWO exciting water projects BARKA is implementing in Fada N’Gourma, the Eastern region capital of Burkina Faso.
Fondation BARKA purchased a small plot of land to drill a new well for the community of Fada. The well was drilled on Earth Day and is now positive (we found water!). The location of the land was determined based on high population densities of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to best serve this growing population of IDPs due to Burkina's ongoing security crisis. Through a water tower and solar pump connected to the well, the system will serve more than 1000 people. In addition, through a partnership with local associations and the ministry of agriculture agents, the plot of land will be cultivated using the principles of agroecology, such as forest gardening (inter-cropping fruit trees with garden vegetables) and other techniques to enrich soil, conserve water, combat erosion, and maximize crop yields. Thanks to irrigation from the water of the well, they will be able to grow and harvest year-round. We have already begun the implementation of this project and July is the right period for agriculture in Burkina Faso as the rainy season starts.
Fondation BARKA is also working with the Rotary Foundation represented by the Crystal Club of Ouagadougou, on a water project for three villages in desperate need of clean water. This project is in a process of approval and will supply more than 5000 people.
We can't do all this work without you and we humbly and sincerely thank you all for your continuous support and your generous donations that enable us to do this work. We are grateful, and thanks to your contributions we will keep on providing clean water for the people of Burkina Faso.
Please Help us change people's lives through water in a country where access to clean water is a real struggle.
