This project aims to provide sports and cultural activities to 60 children in order to prevent crime and to effectively build resilience of at-risk youth. Also, we will provide the cildren with healthy meals.
According to UNICEF Annual Report, Brazil faces extremely high rates of crime and violence, with an estimated 60,000 homicide victims in 2017, including more than 10,000 adolescents. The community of Sitio Jordao is located in the municipality of Baturite. Juvenile offending is occurring, and is perceived to be a growing problem in the community.
This project will promote sports and cultural activities to build resilience in young people by enhancing their life skills, and to increase their knowledge of the consequences of substance use and crime, with a view to positively influencing their behaviour and attitudes, and preventing antisocial and risky behaviour. Our immediate beneficiaries are children aged 6 to 15 years old, including all genders, and are identified as living at or near the poverty line.
The project will serve 60 children enabling them to find peaceful solutions for resolving conflicts, avoid dangerous situations, help prevent crime and increase respect for diversity.
