Care and educate slum kids in Guntur, India

We are immensely grateful for your unwavering support over the past 11 academic years. Your commitment has been instrumental in sustaining our project, which operates three after-school learning centers and an upper primary school, benefiting approximately 275 children across three slum locations in Guntur city.

As we embark on the academic year 2022-23, BASS staff and volunteers are diligently continuing our Care and Education program. Our upper primary school in Dasaripalem slum is now running up to 7th class as a regular school, with 120 children attending daily under the guidance of 6 teachers, 3 helpers, and dedicated cooks. Additionally, two evening learning centers at Swarna Bharathi Nagar slum and Lingayapalem Slum are catering to over 70 and 80 children, respectively, with the support of two teachers at each center.

The Slum Children Care and Education project’s overarching goal is to provide quality education, nutritious meals, and a safe environment for children who are deprived of their basic rights and opportunities. The slums where we are working have no other education facilities, hence we are continuously facilitating education to the children.

We are successfully implementing the project as the academic year 2023-24 is going on well with the following results:

The project is benefiting about 275 slum children through one upper primary school and three tuition centers.

Providing daily classes in essential subjects such as Maths, English, Science, Social Studies, and Moral Education.

Conducting regular assessments and periodical exams and feedback sessions to monitor the learning progress of the students.

Organizing extracurricular activities, including games, yoga, life skills training, cultural activities and festivals.

We are also providing midday meals to 125 children in our school and also evening nutrition snacks to 80 children in our after-school learning centers.

We are also able to provide school uniforms, education material to 125 children in our upper primary school this year.

We are also taking care and checking the health of the children monthly.

We celebrated Independence Day, Children’s Day, Diwali festival and other important cultural events during this quarter.

During this quarter until November 2023, we have received a total of US$ 1160 from your generous donations. However, we still need your support to ensure the sustained success of our project.

As we enter the new academic year 2023-24, the children in our care are in need of your support for the following requirements:

Education Material: Procuring new textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, crayons, charts, maps, and other learning aids for the 150 slum children.

School Uniforms and Bags: Providing school uniforms and bags for the 150 children attending the slum upper primary school.

Operational Costs: Covering the operational costs of running the slum school and tuition centers, including salaries, rent, electricity and water bills, transportation expenses, maintenance charges, and contingency funds.

We are also in need of providing school benches for our school to fit for 150 children in 6 classrooms.

We humbly request you to consider supporting these children by providing new educational materials, uniforms, and by enabling the continued operation of one slum school and three after-school slum learning centers.
