BBR's New Truck Fund: Even birds need wheels!

BBR is back on the road!

When Maryann Izzarelli launched this special fundraiser, I thought she was dreaming. Never in our wildlist dreams did we imagine she would reach our goal. But last Thursday we were handed the keys to our band new Nissan Frontier truck. It’s more than we could ever have wished for, and it’s all thanks to you!!

We are now guaranteed 5 years of worry-free motoring. 5 whole years knowing that the BBR Rescue Truck will not itself need rescuing. We're working on the branding for the doors and tailgate, and will share photos of that as soon as we have them.

A massive, massive thank you to everyone that was involved in getting us to this stage: from Maryann for being the first to dream big; to our Government Finance Ministry and the Forest Department for supporting the tax and duty waiver; to Bravo Motors for their generous discount; our members and supporters and our social media advocates, and of course to every single person that donated funds. We would still be walking if it weren’t for you!

The words ‘thank you’, as usual, don’t come close to conveying our gratitude, but you will see our appreciation reflected in every little feathered face we rescue for years to come.

A few things have happened since our last update on the truck fund.

Firstly, our very old Grand Tiger decided he was done permanently. To show how done he was, we sold the corpse for just $500US. Not a great legacy for the poor old boy.

Additionally, the ‘cheap’ truck we were aiming to buy had sold out and stocks won’t be replenished as it was an old model. Looking back, I think we had a narrow escape and we have now set our sights way higher in the shape of a new Nissan Frontier truck.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, the total fund is at just over $20,000US which is amazing! It does leave a shortfall of around $6,500US, and yes, we could get a used truck outright for that, but that hasn’t worked out well for us in the past.

The Nissan dealer in Belize City have offered assistance with interest-free financing and it’s too good to pass up. So we will have 12 monthly payments to make after the purchase, but we will be blessed with a 5 year warranty on a new vehicle. After almost 8 years of driving with crossed fingers, this is a dream come true!

With this in mind, we are making one final push on the fund to the end of December. Every single dollar makes a difference, it truly does.
