Since the start of the ongoing war on October 7 between Israel and Palestine, the life of the people has changed drastically. Most of the people of Bethlehem lived on tourism but the town is now empty. Many are unoccupied and live under poverty line as the city was still recovering from the Covid-19 crisis. The Dar Al Majus Center that we were able to open thanks to your support, is now a center of paramount importance to meet the economic, psicological and social needs due to this new crisis.
For many years, the separation wall has kept the population of Bethlehem semi-confined. The restriction of movement has generated depression, leading to a climate of heavy social tension, which in turn leads to increased violence especially among youth. This condition has now worsened due to the outbreak of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. Activities are closed in the West Bank and its almost impossible for families to earn a living.
Since its opening in 2022 the Dar Al Majus Community Center has become a true point of reference for the local community. Due to its multi-functional purpose, the center allows us to meet the needs of the community 360 degrees. In this particular crisis we are focusing particularly on PSS for traumas and anger management, cash for volunteering: financial support for vulnerable families who are willing to volunteer with us and distribution of coupons for food and hygiene products.
In this moment of great crisis, the center activities will focus on emergency relief, yet the center is structured to remain a point of reference for the entire community in all its physical and humanitarian needs. Alongside the crisis intervention we always carry on counselling activities to foster dialogue and peace.
