By Eve Saosarin | Director, M'Lop Tapang
Can you believe it is November already? Sometimes I don’t know where the time goes! Before we end another year I just wanted to say thank you again for your support and encouragement to M’Lop Tapang. With your help we have been able to work with more children than ever before and assist them with what they need to build a foundation for a better future.
We think that one of the ways we can help children prepare for the future is by getting an education. Because of your help more than 2,000 Cambodian children and youth are now benefiting from M’Lop Tapang’s education activities. Many are being provided with the resources they need to stay in school, while others, like 8 year old Sinat* are entering classrooms for the very first time.
Sinat was born into a very poor family. They live in a slum area down by the ocean side port. Her father is a fisherman and her mother fixes fishing nets. It is a day to day struggle to get by and Sinat’s parents could not afford to send her to study.
Earlier this year Sinat joined hundreds of others in M’Lop Tapang’s “Bridging Program”, a non-formal education program that helps children who have never been to school catch up with their studies so that they can be reintegrated into local public schools with confidence. As part of the program Sinat and the other children receive transport to and from their homes to our Education Center, hot meals, health care, structured learning activities, as well as the chance to have fun and interact with other children.
From all of us here at M’Lop Tapang in Cambodia, thank you for joining us to help the children and their families.
