Happy New Year!!! It is such a pleasure to write to you again. On behalf of all of us at Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico, let me express our deep gratitutde for your support during 2019.
You probably heard the news that southern Puerto Rico was deeply affected by a series of earthquakes and aftershocks earlier this month. I would like you to know that the facilities of Boys & Girls Clubs in Puerto Rico, located across northern Puerto Rico, are in good shape. This is very important, since all public schools in Puerto Rico are closed, waiting for safety certifications and approval to open. Although we do not have Clubs in the south, all children in Puerto Rico are missing classes, regardless of their location.
In response to our kids being out of school, BGCPR has adjusted the schedule at the Clubs so kids can attend Club services during the day. Once classes resume, we will go back to our usual after-school hours. Kids are receiving the same ecucational and prevention services, including a daily hot meal. Your contribution makes this possible.
The response of the people of Puerto Rico to this force of nature was nothing less than expected and surpassed that of the government by many miles.
I am sure there's hope.
And I hope that my next report brings news of happiness, recovery and new beginnings.
Be well,
Astrid Guerra
