We are creating this crowdfunding opportunity in order to reconstruct our outdoor bodybuilding gym, named Linda. Our main goal is to enclose the already existing area with aluminum walls and a waterproof roof so people from Katsikas refugee camp can train in any weather condition during winter and summer. Moreover, we would like to put new and better equipment in the gym, so people can train properly in our space.
As a sport project, our facilities and equipment are vital for our work. The bodybuilding gym right now, is open with no good construction and cannot be used during bad weather conditions. Moreover, the equipment is made from cement and is old and not well-functioning. For that reason, we decided to rebuild the bodybuilding gym, so people can train easily and feel safe in a space with good equipment and facilities.
If we enclose the gym, people from Katsikas refugee camp will be able to train during the bad weather conditions that are existing in Ioannina like rain, snow etc. Moreover, by closing the area and having better equipment there, people can train in a decent way and come regularly. By being able to train properly, people's mental health will start to become better and they will feel better for their bodies and self.
The long term impact that the project will have in the community has to do with the training of the people and their mental health. We do believe that by fixing this area, people are going to be more motivated to work out and train themselves. This as a result will help them build a strong community and ameliorate their mental wellbeing, while living in a camp can be seriously traumatic as an experience.
