This scholarship program will award young undergraduate students from low income families with full fee exemption for their healthcare program pursued at Faculdade Sirio-Libanes, supporting professional formation for better healthcare professionals.
Studies by SEMESP show that dropout rates in Brazilian healthcare programs (such as Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, and Psychology) hover around 30%. This issue is most severe among low-income students at private institutions who cannot afford tuition through graduation. To combat this, our ongoing scholarship program awards full waivers to around 28 students annually with a monthly household income under $300.
The project aims to annually award up to 10% of available spots to students with full exemption from monthly fee while pursuing one of the five healthcare programs at Faculdade de Ciencias da Saude Sirio-Libanes. Eligible students must be at their first-time undergraduate pursue, must came from low-income families and has to achieve a minimum frequency rate and a minimum grad level to continue receiving the scholarship.
By eliminating the debt burden of higher education, the program offers low-income families a viable path to healthcare careers, which is often the determining factor in student retention. Nursing students, for instance, save up to USD 26,000 throughout their studies, representing up to 87 times their family's average monthly income.
