A year ago, our project helped little Ailana with paying for bone marrow transplantation in a hospital in Turkey. She comes from Kazakhstan where she was first diagnosed with leukemia when she was 3. Ailana was hospitalized for a year, then discharged home for another year of maintenance chemotherapy. Another year of monthly checkups followed, but unfortunately Ailana relapsed in late 2023. Locally, chemotherapy was her only option, but in Turkey she was offered a possibility to undergo bone marrow transplantation from a donor that would improve her chances of staying relapse-free. Ailana's parents chose to do all the could to bring Ailana to Turkey for better treatment.
In February 2024 Ailana successfully underwent bone marrow transplantation, recovered and returned home with her parents. Now she will need to travel to Turkey every year for follow up examinations to ensure that leukemia does not return. Since Ailana's family pays out of pocket for all of her medical costs, they need our assistance again. It is critical that post-transplant patients stay on a schedule and don't delay the care they need. We will be very grateful for your support of Ailana that ensures she regains her health!
