Book donation Project in Sri Lanka

Introduction

Access to quality educational resources remains a significant challenge for children in rural areas of Sri Lanka. To support and encourage reading habits and improve learning opportunities, we initiated a book donation project targeting underprivileged school children.

Objective

The main objective of this project was to distribute essential books to students in rural schools, enhancing their access to educational materials and inspiring a love for reading.

Project Implementation

In June 2025, we successfully distributed a total of 200 book lists, comprising a variety of textbooks, storybooks, and supplementary learning materials. The distribution covered several rural schools identified through local education authorities and community leaders.

Activities Conducted

• Identification of beneficiary schools: We worked with local officials to select schools in need.

• Preparation of book lists: A list of essential books was curated based on the curriculum and students' needs.

• Procurement of books: Books were sourced from local publishers and bookstores to support the local economy.

• Distribution: Books were delivered directly to the schools and handed over to students in an organized manner.

Impact

The project benefited over 200 children, providing them with valuable learning resources that they otherwise would not have access to. Teachers reported increased student enthusiasm and engagement in classroom activities following the donation.

Challenges

• Limited accessibility to certain remote areas due to poor road conditions.

• Logistical constraints in transporting books safely during the rainy season.

Future Plans

We aim to continue this project annually and expand it to more schools across different regions. Future phases will also include workshops to encourage effective use of the donated books and promote reading culture among children.
