Fernanda was a victim of gender-based violence. When she came to the Idea Dignidad Foundation, she knew she was taking a big step, but what she didn't know was where this decision to seek specialized professional support would lead.
We share with you a fragment of the story we wrote, which is included in this book and which helped her rebuild her path.
Thank you for continuing to support this project.
I SURVIVED
By: Fernanda Mejía (Quito)
Have you ever thought that life could put you in a situation?
A situation in which you absolutely have to survive love?
It seems impossible that love and survival can go hand in hand in the same sentence. That's how it was for me. I survived love for love, the worst and at the same time the best love story of my life, the one that saved me.
As a child, I was taught that love is sacrifice; the more pain you endure, the more you love. In fact, the Bible itself says: "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
The false ideal of romantic love has been ingrained in our subconscious since we were children, but how much should we endure?
Should we suffer, believe, hope, or endure someone for love?
Because under this precept, loving too much can be fatal, and there are cases where surviving that love can be a miracle.
I survived. Love, and I did it for love, love of myself—that's what saved me.
