Challenge

Reading is the most important linguistic skill that needs to be developed in young children since it is a building block upon which all other learning takes place. Pakistan has over 22 million children who're out of school, the ASER statics 2016 show that out of those enrolled, 54% students could not read English sentences; showing those attending school are not learning at grade level; eventually leading to poor performance and dropping out because they have no access to books/libraries.

Solution

Over the past 40 years our NGO has focused on bringing libraries to children with the aim to make the books accessible to the community at large. Through our rickshaw library we will be giving access to some of the most renowned children's books carefully selected by a panel of educationist which are otherwise not available to them in schools or else where because of absence of libraries for children & hold reading and story telling sessions to develop their interest.

Long-Term Impact

Our project will work to give access to quality literature to 6000 children from 5-7 different communities to develop a foundation skill for all learning. To help them become a building block towards a literate society. Cornerstone of a healthy community engaged in positive learning activity. Improve vocabulary, comprehension and cognitive skills and better performance in schools eventually reducing drop-outs. A medium to learn about different cultures and remove the barriers.
