AIL is active in promoting literacy and book reading to all children. Recently, as part of a leadership class the staff held a Book reading contest called Books and Leaders. The boys and girls in each leadership class competed with each other. The contest encourages reading but also reading with focus and close attention to detail in reading something that requires concentration of thought in today’s world of instant news, images and distraction.

The questions were composed from three books:

The Power of Emotional Intelligence written by Donal Gellman

Creativity and Problem Solving by Brian Tracy

Manage Your Time by Brian Tracy.

One student said, “I enjoy  books and doing this contest I had to pay attention so as to answer all the questions correctly. I really like reading a lot.”

The school principal and head of the leadership class were the judges and a team of girls won the contest with a high score of 30 out of 38 marks.

Thank you for your continued support for vital educational resources such as magazines and  books!
