Challenge

Chilon and Ocosingo are among the 15 places in Mexico with the highest number of people living in extreme poverty . Indigenous groups suffer a low quality of life due to a series of structural factors that negatively feed each other, including inadequate access to basic services -mainly water, education, communication media & deficient or lack of food security and precarious health. Low educational level and the scarcity of decent sources of employment in the region.

Solution

It will develop capacities, knowledge transference & respect for its culture. With eco-technologies & promotion of second-level collective economic practices leaded by social & solidarity economy; incubation of entrepreneurships will reduce the actual vulnerable conditions & will allow indigenous groups become the engines of sustainable community development.

Long-Term Impact

It will strengthen social ties & generate economic resilience strategies, which will reduce existing vulnerability conditions & will allow sustainable community development. From the reinforcement of ties and lessons learned, they can have greater self-management skills.
